hey everyone, how do i know if my 2000 328i bmw 5speed differential fluid is non limited slip or limited slip? I am going to use royal purple max gear oil 75w90 in my differential. How many quarts does my differential take? Any one had any positive experience with it? I already changed the motor oil and transmission oil using Royal Purple 5w-30 and for the tranny. Royal Purple Synchromax. If u can share your experiences with royal purple products, it will be greatly appreciated. THANKS GUYZ!
And is it actually better to just add a few full sythetic quarts to regular oil when I do my next oil change. I don’t want to spend for a full synthetic change but want better then regular dino oil.
I have the original transmission in my truck and I have a 302 V8 engine….I just need to know how many quarts of oil are in the transmission.
On a side question…is there any brands of Trans oil that is best to use, and do trans fluid additives helpful…the additives that are supposed to restore lost performance??? I ask because my transmission shifts very hard and is making some grinding noises…..
I have a 2000 Saturn SL2. I use mobil1 full synthetic oil and my car demolishes it so quick. I just recently within the past two or three months switched to the full synthetic, so I dont think it is the fact that I am using a full synthetic because even with a blended oil I still go through five quarts in less than a month. What could the problem be?
I own a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. I checked the manual, it does not specify how many quarts goes into my motor.
I also want to know what you guys reccomend for oil. I am probably going to use Mobil 1 5w-20 Extended Performance.
I am also curious about Royal Purple. Anyone use it? How does it compete with other oils?
Thanks in advance
i will be using 5w-20
thanks for all the replies. more answers are welcomed!
OK, OK I know I did wrong but now I’m looking for the REMEDY.
first my 99 ford expedition was real low on motor oil, but the warning light didn’t came on, so I did bought an OIL TREATMENT, and a couple of oil quarts to fill up to level the engine. Although I never use any aditives this time I did,. then instead using 5W-30 as recomended on the manual I did used 10W-30.
I used the ADITIVE first, then added the MOTOR oil, needless to say the additive was real thick (like honey) and that was a small bottle 350ml.also I didnt change the oil filter.
after I drove it, it started to rattle like about 40-50 mph. same that never happened to me before, but I always took my truck to the shop for the oil change, Anyways I KNEW i did wrong so I took my truck now to the shop for a second oil change, they did use the right oil and change the filter,as suppossed to be but my problem with my truck and WIFE is that the truck still rattles, but when driving,it seems like I have a better response, what you guys recomend and do you think something was damaged? it seems the more I drive it the better but still rattles……….can a additive make that much difference, please help my wife is killing me
i have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7L V6 and i have read on the internet that a lot of these engines have failed due to oil sludge build up.
i have noticed that my car takes a lot more oil then it should, and i can’t help but think that the reason its taking more oil is because its building up sludge.
if i switch to a full synthetic will this stop build up of engine sludge and possible get rid of existing sludge.
I also want to know if there’s anything i should do before i change over to synthetic, like buy some sort of flush or something like that
between the car’s last oil change it took 2 and a half quarts of oil, it has around 90,000 miles on it
i’ve read some things saying that if i would switch to synthetic oil that it could cause my engine to leak oil, is that true
My wife and I bought a 2006 dodge durango with a hemi used it had only 15,000 miles and i wanted to use only synthetic oil in it. The only oil change we have done on it i bought mobile 1 synthetic oil and used that. I am looking at the circulars for car part stores in the area and i found the same package 5 quarts of oil and a oil filter for . i was going to go with this again. I was wondering if anyone out there is a mechanic that can offer their advice on what is the best synthetic oil to use. Also i was looking at belle-tires’ website and on theirs for oil changes they state if you use synthetic you can go up to 10,000 mile in between oil changes you just need to maintain the proper oil level. Is that true?
I have some 8-10 year old quarts of 5w30 oil that are looking dark like used oil. Would it be ok to use it in a riding lawn mower engine?
One quart is open. The others have not been opened.
I recently refill the transmission oil in my 1999 corolla by removing pan and also replaced the filter ,i used Wolfs Head Universal Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid on my friend’s advise ,before that i always used pennzoil ATF with excellent results .this time my corolla didn’t responded well to wolfs head ATF ,i am planning to refill transmission oil with Redline D4 Synthetic ATF or Amsoil ATF
i know without transmission flush out i will not be able to replace old wolfs head ATF in transmission .instead of flush out i want to use fill/refill technique ,my question is after first initial fill
(3.3 Quarts for corolla) after how many miles i should refill again and how many times i have to refill the ATF for complete ATF change ,thanks
hello a few months ago i bought a 2007 GSXR 1000 with 4k miles on it i put about 1000 on it in those months and it was time to change the oil so i bought royal purple 10w-40 motor oil and a K&N wrench on oil filter. so i changed the oil didn’t run into any problems sept getting old filter off no big deal put in 3.5 quarts like manual sayed torqued the oil drain bolt and done rode it around the lot a little then checked oil it was about a half inch above the low line. so 3 days lated i went out for first ride on new oil started it up the fuel injector light came on but when i turned bike off to get manual then back on it didn’t come on again i got gas went about 4 miles and when i was in a slight lean my wheel spin oil a lil i didn’t think to Much of it but a few seconds after i looked back and i was leaving a huge trail of smoke i cut off the engine asap and pulled over all the oil from my engine was leaking onto the pavement at high rates the oil filter didn’t look like it was falling off and the drain bolt was still there i heard no noises or noticed and Performance changes when the oil leaked out WTF happend and how Much money am i looking at to make it go away
sry for the horrible grammer
i did drain all the oil out in fact i needed to go get a tool to get oil filter off so i left the oil drain bolt and filler cap open when i went to get tool. also it didnt fix itself all the oil leaked out onto the road
as far as i saw no oil pressure light came on
really better then conventional motor oil? Pros & cons.
I live in the desert where temperatures are often over 100 degrees.
I religiously have the oil changed every 3K or 3 months whichever comes first.
Some places say that oil is rated 3,4 or 5. 3 being conventional motor oil. Some places tell me is 60/40. I have looked at quarts in auto parts stores & there is no mention of the blend.
Thanks for your help & oppinion
I’m talking about using semi synthetic here. Not straight synthetic.
I’m taking it that semi synthetic should still be changed at 3K or 3 months.
The dipstick says my engine oil is low so I poured three quarts into it. Is this okay?
just bought a tci c4 tranny for my 1976 mustang II cobra, motor is 302. can someone tell me how many quarts it will take to fill, i know it takes type f fluid, would synthetic oil be better? i only want to do this once. thanks
I do oil changes out of my home garage, and there are times when I’m not sure what the recommended oil capacity (in quarts) and viscosity (5w-30, 10w-30, etc.) is for a certain car. Are there any websites that would easily give oil information for a large amount of vehicles?
