I need an oil change, and there’s a car wash by me that does oil changes/tire rotations etc. except it’s Quaker State. Is that a good brand, like the synthetic is just as good as Mobil 1?

I started doing my own oil changes recently, and one of the problems that i ran into is choosing the right oil filter. I live in a very small town, and the local hardware store only stocks 4 filter brands: FRAM, Motorcraft, Quaker State and Mobil 1. So far i’ve been using Mobil 1 since that’s what the salesman at the store advised me to do, but at per filter its a bit expensive.

I’ve done some research on the Internet and now i’m even more confused. Some say FRAM/Quaker State are the best filters if you change your oil every 3000 miles (that’s what i do), others say they can cause engine damage even if changed frequently. Most people say Mobil 1 is the best but there are sites that say they’re an overpriced scam because they have an even smaller filtering area then a Fram filter? And there doesn’t seem to be any info about Motorcraft filters at all…

Which of these 4 should i use?

Have you seen the Latest Quaker State TV commercial?
The premise is that if you use QS oil exclusively for the life of your car at 300,000 miles they will pay you the Blue Book Value of your car.

I started thinking about this:

Lets see it would take 20-25 years to get to 300,000 if you bought a new car now and documented all QS oil changes.

How many people keep their cars for that long?
What are the chances that a receipt will be lost?
What is the car worth with 300,000 miles? (about 500 dollars?)
Who will remember that there was such a promotion 20 years from now?
Will the average car be in junk yard way before reaching 300K?

Or lets say that you have an old car and HAVE been using QS exclusively;

Who keeps oil receipts for 25 years? (That would be the only way to prove it.)
The marketing guru that thought this one up is a genius. He knows this will increase oil sales and that it is a wager that they will never have to pay.

I will wager 1 million dollars that there will not be an elephant stampede in the Antarctic.

I have used Castrol GTX for years without problems. However, I heard that Castrol used to be a very good oil, but since they have started making it with recycled oil, it does not hold up as well anymore. Is this true? How does Kendall, Quaker State, Valvoline and Pennsoil compare to Castrol?
