I need an oil change, and there’s a car wash by me that does oil changes/tire rotations etc. except it’s Quaker State. Is that a good brand, like the synthetic is just as good as Mobil 1?

I have a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder XE 6cyl 3.0L 4×4
I have over a million miles on my truck (I am not kidding, people usually think I lie about it, but its true and its on miles not km).
The manual says that I can put 10w40 oil or 20w40 for places with higher temperature. I live in El Paso, its cold winters and hot summers. I usually put 20w40, because the other motor oil tends to disappear faster in between oil changes when I use the 10w40.
What I am looking for is what type of oil I should use, and what brand should I use. I want a good quality brand that would best fit the conditions of my truck, considering its old and it has a lot of millage on it.

Thank you in advance :)

I have a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo SS, I’ve put synthetic oil in from 47,000 miles to the 195,000 it has now. I’m now doing my own oil changes, so what are the best synthetic oils?

ok i bought my car 09/05 from a dealership. its a 1998 pontiac grand prix gt and it was ,200. well since then i’ve had to put over ,500 in repairs to it.

-egr valve
-belts
-window motors (both stopped working)
-new wiper motor/relay (also stopped working)
-mass air flow sensor
-new weather stripping stuff by wipers
-struts
-tires
-brakes
-air conditioning
-oil changes, radiator flushs, normal stuff…

also i still have to get the fans fixed b/c whenever i turn my heat on they squeal and its annoying, and when my heats on it smells horrible.

no one else i know has ever put that much $$ into a car in less than 2 years.
i bought it from a good dealership it’s not like its from a buy here pay here.
also it had 70,00 mi. when i bought it.

I started doing my own oil changes recently, and one of the problems that i ran into is choosing the right oil filter. I live in a very small town, and the local hardware store only stocks 4 filter brands: FRAM, Motorcraft, Quaker State and Mobil 1. So far i’ve been using Mobil 1 since that’s what the salesman at the store advised me to do, but at per filter its a bit expensive.

I’ve done some research on the Internet and now i’m even more confused. Some say FRAM/Quaker State are the best filters if you change your oil every 3000 miles (that’s what i do), others say they can cause engine damage even if changed frequently. Most people say Mobil 1 is the best but there are sites that say they’re an overpriced scam because they have an even smaller filtering area then a Fram filter? And there doesn’t seem to be any info about Motorcraft filters at all…

Which of these 4 should i use?

My wife and I bought a 2006 dodge durango with a hemi used it had only 15,000 miles and i wanted to use only synthetic oil in it. The only oil change we have done on it i bought mobile 1 synthetic oil and used that. I am looking at the circulars for car part stores in the area and i found the same package 5 quarts of oil and a oil filter for . i was going to go with this again. I was wondering if anyone out there is a mechanic that can offer their advice on what is the best synthetic oil to use. Also i was looking at belle-tires’ website and on theirs for oil changes they state if you use synthetic you can go up to 10,000 mile in between oil changes you just need to maintain the proper oil level. Is that true?

I want to buy a 1997 BMW 318i but I am a home mechanic and have no trouble working on my Ford’s or GM’s. I am wondering what the difference is and if i could work on my own BMW. I don’t want to do any major motor work just the basics. Example: Starter, Oil changes, Alternator, Tune up. What are some of the differences or obsticals i can come to expect. Is it an easy transition?

I have been doing my own oil changes now for a while and I just checked my oil right now after 7 miles of driving to my girlfriends house and the dipstick said low. It is a chrysler 300 2008 lx 2.7.

Last time I did my oil change I used mobile clean 5000 (5 litters) and one litter of lucas oil stabilizer for a total of 6 litters as my car should have. When I did my oil change I left my car on for 20 minutes to make sure there was no leak and I know I am not leaking. Its 5000 miles later and my oil is low. Why is that?

I know i’m not leaking oil yet it is low.

The guy told me i needed a more expensive synthetic type of oil. The oil change and change of "oil filter" cost a total of 8, is this right? or did i just get completely ripped off? Will those oil changes work in my 2006 c230 ?

Have you seen the Latest Quaker State TV commercial?
The premise is that if you use QS oil exclusively for the life of your car at 300,000 miles they will pay you the Blue Book Value of your car.

I started thinking about this:

Lets see it would take 20-25 years to get to 300,000 if you bought a new car now and documented all QS oil changes.

How many people keep their cars for that long?
What are the chances that a receipt will be lost?
What is the car worth with 300,000 miles? (about 500 dollars?)
Who will remember that there was such a promotion 20 years from now?
Will the average car be in junk yard way before reaching 300K?

Or lets say that you have an old car and HAVE been using QS exclusively;

Who keeps oil receipts for 25 years? (That would be the only way to prove it.)
The marketing guru that thought this one up is a genius. He knows this will increase oil sales and that it is a wager that they will never have to pay.

I will wager 1 million dollars that there will not be an elephant stampede in the Antarctic.

Here is the situation: I was driving from a church last Sunday when the check engine light came on. Took it to a local mechanic in my community who was able to read the code–P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1). The mechanic told I had 3 options: 1. Install new VW or VW like converter. This option costs 00 to 00. 2. Go to a muffler shop, have them place an aftermarket converter with the cost between 0 & 0. The converter brands available would be either Walker or Magnaflow. 3. Cut my losses & get another car. He recommended this as I mentioned at the time that the car used a little oil, about half quart between oil changes@ 3000 miles. He said there had to be something wrong with the motor for this to happen to catalytic converter. I smell no bad odor from the exhaust emanating from the car. Seems to run fine. Hence my questions.

I heard they can go 15,000 miles between oil changes.

2004 Nissan 350z
2006 Audi A4

I know the 350z is faster and the A4 is more luxury rather than speed. Although the Audi’s 2.0T 200hp engine isn’t half bad.. the Nissan still beats it with the 287hp V6. On the other hand, the Audi has the Z beat with it’s luxurious leather interior, and then some.

Obviously there’s more than speed/luxury to cars. I want to get some details from various people as far as the affordability and maintenance goes.. (various exterior mods and motor mods, oil changes, repairs, break downs, miles, etc).

Would it be better for me to buy the A4 and mod it? i.e. put in an intake, bigger injector, bigger turbo, maybe like 15psi? Maybe even consider buying a TT? Or should I just buy the Z with already comes with almost 300hp but less luxurious and not do as many things to it?

I’m basically looking for a really strong reason to buy one of these cars.. I need to pick, but it’s hard. :/ Please give me all of the information you can.

Please and thank you!!! :)
