My question is, would a 10w30 synthetic flow better than 5w30 or 10w30 conventional? Would it flow better hot AND cold or just hot? Since 5w-30 tends to be better for cold starts.

This is comparison between synthetic and conventional. Let me know and possible sources if you have them. Thanks!
Lets focus more on the flow capability between 5w30 conventional oil and 10w30 synthetic. Which would FLOW better cold? Meaning temps around 25-35* F.

My Nissan has 60K on the engine and, I normally use conventional oil and, change every 3K. Id like to try synthetic oil but, need to know how often it needs changing.

mobile one that can also be used. With conventional oil I change it every 4 k and with synthetic every 8k, I hear that even on synthetic oils ,that the addictives break down at 4-5 k and acid still attcks the engine. I have 112 000 kms on my car.

i heard royal purple was the best synthetic oil but id like to get a second opinion. and idk what the best conventional motor oil
dont forget the best conventional oil

I have a Honda Accord 2006 with at least 70,000 miles on it. All this time I have been using conventional oil until recently I changed into synthetic since you can wait until every 5,000 miles to change your oil instead of 3,000. I have heard some awful things regarding to oil leaks in the engine for doing this. Are the rumors true? What would happen if I were to keep using synthetic oil? Thank you very much for your answers!

I have a rebuilt 302 and smokes some at idle and alot at acceleration. I seem to have some oil residue in the exhaust and i did the pistons right were i dont have the rings in a straight line everything is correct. i ran synthetic at first thanks to misleading summit technicians, but then after finding out this is not what to do i used motor flush and tried to clean it out then ran conventional oil with zinc treatment. i have put 100 miles on it and still acts the same…. but now for some reason i am losing quite a bit of oil… like a quart in a half in a 30 mile drive. i have alot of after market parts such as custom ground cam, afr heads, edelbrock upper and lower intake, 30lbs injectors and mass air flow. anybody have suggestions thanks. I drive a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville with about 99,000 miles. Still runs great, but I have heard people recommending a switch to using a High-Mileage motor oil. I was planning on using the Valvoline MaxLife 5w30, but don’t know if this is ok. Some say that switching from conventional oil to synthetic is not good for an engine; others say that nowadays engines are made to handle either. I heard Valvoline MaxLife is only 30% synthetic, so is it ok to make the switch to this type of oil for my 2004 Pontiac?

I just went to Walmart and bought some oil and a filter for my car. I grabbed the oil that was on sale at Walmart (Valvoline Max Life) and the only filter they have to fit my car was an Xtended Guard. Once I got home I noticed on the package it says "for synthetic oil only". Can you not use these with conventional oil, or is it just to get the 10000 mile protection you need to use synthetic oil in combination? I change my oil every 4000 miles anyway so will this filter still work?

I switched ’99 Intrepid to synthetic because I heard they have major problems with sludge in the 99 Intrepid with a 2.7L motor. Synthetic oil fights the formation of sludge far bette than conventional does, also I use it becuase the 2.7L motors run at higher avg. temp than most cars get ….so synthetic combats high temps. That and the motor will just last longer using synthetic.

Valvoline Synpower – 28.99 for 5L
or Mobil 1 if its on sale & I cant get Valvoline.
1999 Dodge Intrepid – 90,000km.

Id consider using Amsoil but its too much money. If you look at the analysis between mobil 1 and valvoline *synthetic* oil they are pretty much equal and for the money Valvoline is much cheaper …..plus I use there conventional oil so I stick with them.
As well I should mention along with amsoil being far more expensive…along with Redline & Royal Purple which are also supposed to be good….they are harder to get or have stocked at major stores. Actually Canadian Tire for those in Canada has for a good year or 2 been carrying amsoil i believe.

Im going to change the oil in my car. Is there a place to get oil on the cheap? No need for synthetic. Conventional oil is fine. I was thinking of Sam’s Club or Costco. Maybe Wal-Mart too?

Thanks!

I did an oil change today because my rebuilt LT1 motor hit about 3,000 miles so I wanted to change from conventional oil to synthetic. my LAST oil change was just last week too. But I did it and noticed that when I let the oil drain….there was oil coming out and leaking underneath was some kind of waterly liquid which I ASSUMED is coolant…It wasnt much but it was noticable coming out…just kind of dripping underneath the oil that was coming out.

So looks like I have coolant getting inside the car and also i noticed in the past FEW days that my car’s oil temp would take quite a bit longer to get up to regular operating temp. Before it would only take about 5 minutes to get up to 200 degrees but it was taking 15-20 minutes. I had to do some spirited driving to get it up to regular temp. I thought my oil sensor was bad but was told this is a symptom of possible coolant getting mixed with the oil.

After doing an oil change today…i notice the oil temp went back to normal.
so my question is what to do now? is a shop suppose to take the heads off to possibly fix this situation?

Can I change the oil every few days in case I cant get the car to the mechanic this week?
My car does come with a Oil Pressure gauge and Oil Temp gauge…its digital though.

Acutally my oil pan bolt is on the side…so it seemed after taking it off that both the oil and water were fighting to get out…but yea water was leaking underneath while the oil was just flowing out.

So I know that with conventional oil you should do oil changes every 3000 miles or so.
I just dropped a 350 crate engine into my ’66 Chevy Nova about 2000 miles ago. I was thinking of going with synthetic for it’s next oil change. If you use synthetic though, how long can you go between oil changes?
I know that synthetic is a bit pricer, I just want to see if it’s worth it if I’m going to be dumping it out every 3000 anyway.
Based on the answers I’m getting. I should add that, the car is definetly a weekend car, and not an every weekend car. I’d say I only have time to cruise it maybe once or twice a month, max 25-30 each time.
Max 25-30 miles each time, is what I meant above.

i have a 2003 vw jetta 1.8 liter turbo. a few weeks ago i got my oil changed at a volkswagen mechanic but i forgot to ask if they used a fully synthetic oil (i didnt want to sound stupid). later looking at the bill i saw he used a synthetic blend for around 25 dollars. am i in trouble? i know conventional oil causes big problems in my type of car and that it calls for fully synthetic. what should i do?

i have been putting Mobil 1 in my truck since the day i rebuilt the motor in it. now he told my that it is bad to use it because it has water in it? he says that by using conventional oil it is better on the engine because there is no water in it. is this true?
