For the last several years I’ve used Castrol (full Synthetic) 5W50 in My 1996 Ducati 900SS/CR. I recently got bitched at by the parts guy at the dealer about it. He said if I didn’t use ‘MotorcycleOil‘ I would wear out the gearbox and shorten the life of the engine.
Anyone have been using syntheticoil and have a bad experience with it, I have. All those oil manufacturer claim that synthetic oil is the best, but in reality, I’m not so sure. A while back, I changed my engine oil in my subaru svx to castrol syntec 10w30. Right after I start up the engine, I can hear that the engine is running quieter, a good sign. But about every 30 second, there is a kind of loud banging or knocking sound somewhere deep inside the engine, I’m not sure where. It only make that sound when the engine is at idle, not when I drive the car. I drove like that for several days, and it just keep making that same noise, and I got nervous. So I changed back to conventional motor oil, and the noise go away ?, strange. I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my transmission, and when I accelerate hard, I can feel it pull stronger. When the power steering pump on this svx about to go out, it is very noisy. I pour Valvoline Synpower power steering fluid in to maybe quiet it down. But instead, it make even more noises. So I changed it out, and pour in mobil 1 synthetic ATF in the power steering, and the noise is lessen, almost go away. My previous car, I always use valvoline conventional motor oil for 20000 miles. Then it take 1 quart oil less to fill it up to the full mark (engine dipstick). So there is 1 quart of sludge somewhere in my engine. Based on my experience, valvoline is probably the worse oil out there. Now I use the very affordable mobil clean 5000. Maybe …

I’m going to change my Harley-Davidson bike engine oil for the first time. Is it OK to use car oil instead of HD oil which is going to cost me like 15 dollars while car oil (mobil or Castrol) costs about 4 dollars.
my brother and i are thinking of starting up an oil changing business and we are trying to figure out where to find product sourcing. we don’t want to be limited to just one brand like franchised lube centers. we want to get Mobil1, Castrol, Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc.
